Rotary began in 1905 when Paul Harris and four other members of the Chicago business community began a small club to kindle
friendships within the business community. Within a year, the club had 30 members. Within five years there were 16 Rotary clubs boasting 1,500 members.
Rotary Comes to Hawaii…
Rotary was introduced to Hawaii in July 1915 when the Rotary Club of Honolulu was established as the first club in the state. The second Rotary club in Hawaii was established in Hilo in 1920.
Since then, 40 additional clubs with a total membership of approximately 2,160 have joined the ranks of Rotary in Hawaii. The Hawaii Kai Club was chartered under the sponsorship of The Rotary Club of East Honolulu in September 1973.
